Crown and root rot disease, caused by the soil-borne fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici (FORL), is considered one of the major factors contributing to yield reduction in tomato crops worldwide. In the present study, the antifungal activity of various fungicides, namely Belkut (iminoctadine tris) 40% WP, Strobi (kresoxim-methyl) 50% WG, and Carbendazim (Bavistin) 60% WP, was evaluated against mycelial growth of FORL under in vitro conditions. Subsequently, Carbendazim was further applied against the pathogen in greenhouse trials on tomato plants. The results indicated that at the maximum concentration (500,000 µl/l), Belkut, Strobi, and Carbendazim exhibited inhibition percentages of 77%, 62.5%, and 69.5%, respectively, while at the minimum concentration (10 µl/l), the corresponding inhibition rates were 33.5%, 26%, and 28.5% against mycelial growth of the pathogen in Petri dish assays. Moreover, Carbendazim at a concentration of 10,000 µl/l was identified as the optimal concentration. Although all three fungicides demonstrated the ability to suppress FORL growth, their efficacy levels varied considerably, thereby providing valuable insights for the selection of appropriate fungicides in FORL disease management strategies. Among the three tested compounds, Carbendazim was recognized as an intermediate fungicide in terms of inhibitory activity against FORL and was consequently selected for greenhouse evaluations. This research assessed the impact of various chemical fungicides on reducing disease incidence and severity, highlighting that their timely and proper application can effectively mitigate the economic losses associated with crown and root rot disease.
